PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stick type pointing device capable of performing input to a computer in a plurality of operation modes.SOLUTION: A pointing stick 100 includes: an operation cover 101 having an operation surface 109 at the top and four pressure sensors 151 and 153. The pressure sensors detect the pressing force of the operation surface. When a force to the operation surface is equal to or more than a predetermined threshold, the pointing stick operates in a first operation mode, and generates data for moving a mouse cursor from the outputs of the pressure sensors. When the force to the operation surface is less than the predetermined threshold, the pointing stick operates in a second operation mode, and generates data for changing the display of a screen. The pointing stick is able to perform a position fixing operation for fixing the position of the finger on the operation surface in the first operation mode, and perform a slide operation for allowing the finger to slide on the operation surface in the second operation mode. |
