The present invention provides a method for producing L-cysteine with high efficiency, specifically a method for producing L-cysteine by culturing a bacterium belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae in a culture medium to produce a culture and then collecting L-cysteine from the culture. The method is characterized in that the bacterium belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae is so modified as to overexpress at least one protein containing a sulfur transfer domain, wherein the protein is selected from the group consisting of glp E protein, yee D protein, psp E protein, sse A protein, yce A protein and sir A protein.
