1,006,103. Positive clutches. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. June 25, 1962 [June 30, 1961], No. 24390/62. Heading F2C. In a synchromesh device for a change-speed sliding gear 1 which is slidable and, when disengaged, rotatable on a hub 6, and has external teeth 2 engageable with teeth of a parallel shaft gear and internal clutch teeth 3 engageable with external clutch teeth 7 on the hubs, a synchromesh ring 10 has a friction cone 16 engageable with a complementary cone 5 on the gear 1 and internal teeth 11 engageable with the hub teeth 7, and chamfers 7<SP>1</SP>, 11<SP>1</SP> on the hubs and ring teeth balk positive engagement of the clutch teeth 3, 7 under pro-synchronous drag torque of the cones following introductory engagement of the sliding gear external teeth 2. A lipped casing 13 fast on the hub and a ring-return spring 14 respectively axially and torsionally retain the faces 7<SP>1</SP>, 11<SP>1</SP> in engagement when the synchromesh ring is released by the sliding gear. The spring 14 is anchored on the hub and the synchromesh ring and during assembly is torsionally pre-stressed. For a two-speed change by the gear 1, the synchromesh device may be provided at each end thereof, or, as shown, only for the hub teeth 7 corresponding to engagement of the gear 9 for first speed, reverse gear engagement for which further hub teeth (Fig. 1, not shown) are provided being non- synchronized. |
