<p>The present invention relates to a method for enriching nucleic acids with a length of less than 300 nucleotides, comprising the method steps of i) providing a fluid, preferably aqueous, phase Pi containing (al) at least one nucleic acid with a length of less than 300 nucleotides, and (cx2) at least one component different from said nucleic acid (axl), ii) contacting the phase P1 with an anion exchange matrix to bind the nucleic acid (al) to the anion exchange matrix, iii) optionally washing the anion exchange matrix with a washing buffer, wherein the nucleic acid (al) remains bound to the anion exchange matrix, and iv) removing, preferably eluting, the nucleic acid (al) bound to the anion exchange matrix from said anion exchange matrix to obtain a fluid, preferably aqueous, phase P2 containing the nucleic acid (al). The invention also relates to a kit for enriching nucleic acids with a length of less than 300 nucleotides, to the use of said kit, to the use of an anion exchange matrix and to a method for treating a disease.
