PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition having negative dielectric anisotropy, and a liquid crystal display element and a liquid crystal display using the liquid crystal composition.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition comprises: a component (B) including a compound expressed by formula (1) and having neutral dielectric anisotropy; and a component that is dielectrically negative. The composition is good in dielectric anisotropy (▵&egr;), viscosity (&eegr;), upper limit temperature (Tni) of a nematic phase, stability (solubility) of the nematic phase at low temperature, rotational viscosity (γ1), and image persistence property, substantially prevents generation of a drop mark in a process of manufacturing a liquid crystal display element, can achieve stable discharge in an ODF (one-drop-fill) process, and can suppress generation of drop marks in the liquid crystal display element. |
