Provided are a method, controller, device and system for protecting a service path. The method comprises: an end node of a protection path receiving a path selection instruction sent by an SDN controller, the path selection instruction comprising a service path, a protection path activation type, a forwarding relationship of the service path in the end node and a forwarding relationship of the protection path in the end node; the end node of the protection path activating at least one forwarding relationship of the forwarding relationship of the service path in the end node and the forwarding relationship of the protection path in the end node according to the service path and the protection path activation type; and when it is determined that the service path fails, the end node of the protection path updating at least one forwarding relationship of the forwarding relationship of the service path in the end node and the forwarding relationship of the protection path in the end node. The embodiments of the present invention solve the problem in SDN technology that when a service path fails, a protection path cannot be used to protect the service path.
