[Also in Division H3] In the inverting circuit illustrated, ScR's 23, 25 are rendered alternately conducting by pulses applied from a source 33, the duration of conduction of each ScR being determined by means of further pulses applied to ScR 24 which when it is rendered conductive operates through a commutating capacitor 30 or 31 to switch-off whichever ScR is conducting; in this circuit dissipation of energy by conduction through ScR 24 is reduced by the provision of a further ScR 29 and inductor 28. ScR 29 is fired by a pulse from 33 immediately after the each firing of the ScR's 23 and 25 so permitting the capacitor 30 or 31, depending upon which ScR is conducting, to charge resonantly through inductor 28 to a voltage in excess of the supply voltage between terminals 21, 22, ScR 29 switching off when the current therein attempts to reverse. Subsequent firing of ScR 24 switches off the conducting ScR through its respective commutating capacitor which then charges in the reverse direction to the voltage of the supply, ScR 24 thereupon switching off.</p> |
