The technical purpose of the present invention is to provide a cleaning robot device having a monitoring function and a control method thereof, wherein the robot is capable of minimizing energy consumption and/or obtaining communication efficiency. The present invention provides the cleaning robot device including multiple sound obtaining means, at least one image obtaining means, and a control unit determining whether sounds obtained by the sound obtaining means are abnormal or not, sensing a direction of the abnormal sounds, and obtaining images from the direction of the abnormal sounds using the image obtaining means. The cleaning robot device and the control method thereof according to the present invention are capable of minimizing the energy consumption of the cleaning robot device having limited energy by automatically recognizing surroundings, rotating and/or moving in a corresponding direction and/or a position when necessary to obtain images or transmit the images to a remote terminal.
