PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel monoclonal antibody that specifically recognizes aberrantly expressed epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR).SOLUTION: The monoclonal antibody of the invention recognizes EGFR epitope that is enhanced or evident upon the aberrant posttranslational modification, which EGFR epitope is found in tumorigenic, hyperproliferative, or abnormal cells but not in normal or wild type cells. The monoclonal antibody recognizes amplified wild type EGFR and de2-7 EGFR, yet binds to an epitope distinct from the unique junctional peptide specific for the de2-7 EGFR mutation. The monoclonal antibody is useful for diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and may be used in combination with chemotherapeutics or an anticancer agents and/or with other antibodies or fragments thereof.
