PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotating electric machine for a vehicle that is efficiently enhanced in protection strength.SOLUTION: A rotating electric machine for a vehicle comprises: a rotating electric machine casing to be arranged inside in a vehicle width direction of a side member 12 as a vehicle body skeleton constituting member provided along a vehicle longitudinal direction; and a protecting member 7 that is mounted on an opposing surface opposing to the side member of the rotating electric machine casing and protects a region opposing to the side member of the rotating electric machine casing from the side member. The protecting member 7 has a protection portion 71 that is separated from an outer surface of a cover 63 forming the opposing surface of the rotating electric machine casing at the region opposing to the side member of the rotating electric machine casing. The protecting member 7 has mounting portions 72A and 72B that contact a mounting surface formed on the opposing surface of the rotating electric machine casing and have mounting bolts 66 inserted therethrough and further upper surfaces of heads of the mounting bolts 66 are not protruded further than a lateral outer surface 71C opposing to the side member 12 of the protecting member 7.
