1. An antimicrobial peptide comprising a contiguous fragment of SEQ ID NO: 1, wherein said fragment consists of
i) an amino acid sequence selected from amino acids 1-107 of SEQ ID NO: 1; ii) a peptide having at least 90% amino acid sequence identity with SEQ ID NO: 5 or SEQ ID NO: 7; or iii) a peptidomimetic derivative of i) or ii), with the proviso that the antimicrobial peptide does not comprise a 10 amino acid sequence that is identical to a contiguous 10 amino acid sequence present in amino acids 108-128 of SEQ ID NO: 1.
