<p>A canister for hot isostatically pressing a component 18 comprises a canister wall 12, a body 22 welded to the canister wall 12 which comprises a blind bore 40 in which is located a blocking member 28. A fluid supply can be attached to the body 22. The blocking member 28 is secured in the blind bore 40 by a screw thread, an interlocking mechanism, an adhesive or an interference fit and can be made of a dissolvable ceramic. The inner surface of the canister comprises a layer 20 of ceramic, intermetallic or glass which is resistant to diffusion bonding. The canister is separated from a hot isostatically pressed component 18 by drilling or grinding the part of the body 36 adjacent the blind bore 40, removing the blocking member 28 from the bore 28, connecting pressurised fluid feed conduit to the body 22 and introducing pressurised fluid into the canister.</p> |
