The cavity generator has a compressed air tank (13) for temporarily storing compressed air. A compressor (10) is provided for filling the compressed air tank with the compressed air at an overpressure depending on surrounding atmospheric pressure. A check valve (11) is provided between the compressor and the compressed air tank. A flow heater (15) is provided between the compressed air tank and a nozzle (17) for heating the heater by flowing compressed air. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a cavity generator.
