In a fixing sleeve which has a threaded insert 2 (preferably of metal) and a covering 1 of resilient material (e.g. rubber or plastics material), the covering has a circumferential groove 3, on one side of which there is a sealing lip 4 and a collar 5 and on the other side of which is a shoulder 6 followed by a conical section and then a cylindrical section. The bottom end of the insert is closed and has at least two flats for engagement by a spanner.
