A carbon article formed as a brake disc is coated with an antiÂoxidant composition comprising aluminium phosphate (produced by reacting orthophosphoric acid and hydrated aluminium chloride), a surfactant, industrial methylated spirits, demineralised water, colloidal silica, and boron nitride. Typically, the antioxidant composition contains 5-25% aluminium phosphate, 0.01-0.1% surfactant, 10-30% industrial methylated spirits, 15-35% demineralised water, 10-25% colloidal silica, and 0.01-25% boron nitride. The composition may also comprise boron. The antioxidant composition is applied over a cured primer coating composition to constitute an antioxidant system, wherein the primer composition comprises orthophosphoric acid, aluminium chloride, surfactant, industrial methylated spirits, and demineralised water. Preferably, the primer composition contains 15-45% orthophosphoric acid, 15-35% aluminium chloride, 0.01-0.1 surfactant, 12-30% methylated spirits, 15-35% water, and boron.
|
