PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode for a cathode capable of efficiently producing ethane, ethylene or the like by efficiently decomposing carbon dioxide relative to a conventional electrode.
SOLUTION: An electrode 1 includes mainly an ion-exchange membrane 5 and a copper porous body 3. The electrode 1 is an electrode for a cathode for reducing carbon-rich gas (carbon dioxide) or carbonate ions. The copper porous body 3 is formed of copper or a copper alloy (which is a copper-based alloy and made by adding a predetermined amount of additional element to copper for various purposes). When copper is used for a cathode electrode, copper functions as a reduction catalyst, carbon dioxide (carbonate ions) is reduced, and hydrocarbon is relatively efficiently produced. Since the specific surface area of the copper porous body is increased as compared with a copper plate or a copper mesh, energy conversion efficiency in electric field reaction can be enhanced. Since the surface structure of the electrode becomes complex, hydrocarbon having two carbons can be efficiently produced in the reduction reaction of carbon dioxide.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
|
