Process for the prepn of hollow acrylic fibres comprises (a) extruding a soln. of an acrylontrile polymer in a solvent through a fibre-forming opening, which forms the fibre as at least one longitudinal outer wall around a hollow interior, the outer wall possessing axially running ends which are separated by an air split during extrusion, so that the hollow interior is connected with the air, and (b) withdrawing the fibre from the opening, so that the axially running ends become united with each other. The acrylonitrile polymer is dissolved in a concentrated aqueous salt soln., the viscosity of the polymer soln. being between 4 x 104 and 107 centiposies at 30 deg.C; the hollow-interior has a cross section of at least 0.04 mm2; and the formed fibres are passed through an aqueous spinning bath at a point ca. 0.2-5.0 cm. from the spinning opening.
|
