1,224,948. Equalizing tension in ropes; transshipping at sea. VYSSHEE MOREKHODNOE UCHILISCHE. 24 June, 1969 [24 June, 1968 (2)], No. 31949/69. Headings B8B and B8E. A crane for transferring cargo 22 from one ship 1 to another 8 under rough sea conditions comprises a luffing, slueing boom 3 with a jib 4. Hydraulic cylinders 10, 11, Fig. 2, are interconnected via a pipe-line 12 so that as the boom 3 is luffed by a hoist 7 the jib 4 remains horizontal. A load hoist 5 with a triple drum is connected by ropes 15, 16, 17 to a cargo suspension 21 over sets of pulley blocks 27, 28, 29, respectively, Fig. 4, which are mounted on a movable shaft 23 and a stationary shaft 24. The shaft 23 is connected to a pneumatic cylinder 25 supplied with air from an accumulator 26. The shafts 23, 24 also support pulley blocks 30 which guide a follow-up rope 9 connecting the ship 8 with a hoist 6. In use the tension in the rope 9 is pre-set using the hoist 6 and any movement of the ship 8 is compensated by the cylinder 25 moving the shaft 23, simultaneously adjusting the ropes 15, 16, 17 which thus maintain equal tension. Swinging of the cargo 22 is minimized by the three rope suspension 15, 16, 17, while luffing the boom 3 with the hoist 5 stopped results in horizontal displacement of the cargo 22. |
