[Also in Division C3] Compounded particles of natural or synthetic rubber are provided with a sheath of material which is insoluble in a liquid in which it is desired to disperse the particles. In the examples polybutadiene is dissolved in a solvent and compounded. In Example 1 the solution is emulsified in aqueous polyvinyl alcohol, the solvent is removed and the dispersion is spray dried. In Example 2 the solution is emulsified in gelatin, the solvent is removed and sodium sulphate is added to concenrate the solution of gelatin, the coating can optionally be treated with formaldehyde to harden. In Example 3 the solution is dispersed in aqueous gum arabic, the solvent is removed, gelatin is added and complex concentration is carried out. If desired this coating can also be hardened with formaldehyde. The particles when dispersed in a liquid plasticiser can be coated onto fabrics, wires. |
