acids of general formula I and their salts and esters. Ar-O-(CH2)n- -COOR R = H, alkyl or salt-forming cation Ar = Ph or R"R3-Ph where R" = 2-alkyl or hal and R3 = 3-alkyl or hal n = 3-6. Produce a lowering of serum triglycerides without affecting serum cholesterol and body wt. By reaction of an alkali deriv. of II with an aryloxyalkyl halide III. Ar.O(CH2)n.Hal + M. -COOR' (I) R' = alkyl or a salt forming cation. II is prepd. in situ by reacting i-butyric acid or its salt or ester with a strong base e.g. triPh-methiodide, alkali hydride, amide or tert. alkoxide in a solvent at -5 to +175 deg. pref. 0-30 deg. Preferred bases are Li amides, Alkyl2N.Li esp. with alkyl = Me or iPr. The R' is removed by hydrolysis and replaced by H which may be converted to alkyl or a cation.
|
