Each of a series of cards fed with fibrous material from a main duct, through which the material is conveyed pneumatically, has a chute 11 with a movable panel 15 which is reciprocated by a rod and crank mechanism 17 about a pivot 16 to assist in the advancement of the material in the chute, the speeds of reciprocation of the panels of the chutes not being all the same. The mechanism 17 is driven through reduction gearing 41, 42 from a motor 19. The motor through the gearing drives a pulley 43 which imparts drive to a shaft 45 which detachably supports the orank 17 of the mechanism. The crank is detachable to permit its replacement by another crank of different throw, the rod 52 being in two parts and adjustable in length. Preferably no panel of a chute is reciprocated at the same speed as the panel of the next proceding and/or succeeding chute. The releasable connecting of the chutes to the main duct is described in Specification No. 1,186,682.</p> |
