#CMT# #/CMT# Electropolishing the surface of metals, namely iron, tungsten, light metals or their alloys, comprises using an electrolye comprising methanesulfonic acid and an alkanediol with 2-6 carbon atoms or a cycloalkanol with 5-8 carbon atoms. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Electropolishing the surface of iron, tungsten, light metals or their alloys, especially iron ot its alloys, e.g. nickel-iron alloys, stainless steel, carbon steel, tungsten or its alloys, magnesium or its alloys, or aluminum or its alloys, especially aluminum-silicon alloys. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The process can be used to electropolish a broad range of metals and alloys with minimal hazards to working safety and the environment. #CMT#METALLURGY : #/CMT# Preferred Process: The electrolyte comprises 10-80 wt.% methansulfonic acid and 20-90 wt.% 1,2-propanediol or 1,2-butanediol. Electropolishing is effected at 60-100[deg] C at an anodic current density of 3-40 A/dm 2>. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Stainless steel was electropolished at 80[deg] C and 10 A/dm 2> in an electrolyte comprising methanesulfonic acid (37%) and 1,2-propanediol (63%). A specular finish was obtained after 15 minutes.
|
