<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the detection accuracy of a distance to a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: Communication equipment for vehicle 112 includes a transmission part 133 for transmitting a plurality of signals for distance detection having different transmission intensity, a reception part 131 for receiving a command from a portable machine 111, and a transmission control part 132 for adjusting the transmission intensity of the signals for distance detection on the basis of the command from the portable machine 111. The portable machine 111 includes a reception part 123 for receiving each signal for distance detection, a reception intensity detection part 124 for detecting the reception intensity of each signal for distance detection, an effective signal determination part 125 for determining whether the reception intensity is within an effective range, a transmission intensity commanding part 126 for making a command to adjust the transmission intensity of a signal for distance detection whose reception intensity is outside the effective range, and a distance detection part 127 for detecting a distance to a vehicle on the basis of the reception intensity of two or more signals for distance detection whose reception intensity is within the effective range.
