<p>The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for executing a function using a gesture and a portable electronic device for the same, which are capable of executing various functions through a gesture, and displaying a gesture guide icon to provide an intuitive guide for the gesture to a user. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a portable electronic device includes: an icon generating unit configured to generate a guide icon, which includes an area divided into nine parts and individual function icons displayed in first to eighth areas except a center area among the divided area; a function setting unit configured to set first to eighth vectors having a directional component from the first to eighth areas to the center area, and to match the functions of the individual function icons to the first to eighth vectors; a display unit configured to display the guide icon on a display screen; a sensing unit configured to receive a user gesture to detect a directional component from the user gesture; a vector matching unit configured to determine a vector having a directional component corresponding to the detected directional component among the directional components of the first to eighth vectors; a function execution unit configured to execute a function corresponding to the determined vector; a control unit configured to control the icon generating unit, the function setting unit, the display unit, the sensing unit, the vector matching unit, and the function execution unit; and a memory executed by the control unit, and configured to store a program that operates the icon generating unit, the function setting unit, the display unit, the sensing unit, the vector matching unit, and the function execution unit.</p> |
