<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for selecting and performing an appropriate original size detection processing in accordance with a situation of disturbance light without performing manual setting. <P>SOLUTION: A control section 8 sets a period for driving a light source 25 by a driving circuit 26 so that a fluctuation frequency of the light source 25 is the farthest from that of the disturbance light on the basis of the fluctuation frequency of the disturbance light, which is detected by an original sensor 34. When a light volume of the disturbance light is determined to be smaller than a threshold which is previously set, a first original size determination processing for determining an original size is instructed to a size determination section 12.
