[Class 2 (iii)] Normal paraffins of at least 4 carbon atoms per molecule are isomerized in the liquid phase in presence of an aluminium halide, and the reaction products are cooled in order to precipitate the aluminium chloride contained therein in a solid state, and the solidified aluminium halide particles are recycled to the reaction zone in the form of a slurry by admixture thereof with fresh feed stock to be treated or with a part of the reaction products. The cooling may be by reduction of pressure sufficient to induce evaporation, or by means of cooling tubes arranged separately from or combined with the reaction vessel. The isoparaffin obtained may be alkylated with monoolefine. A promoter such as a hydrogen halide, lower alkyl halide or chlorine may be used in the isomerization reaction.</p> |
