[Also in Division H4] Serial-bit data passes via a modem to a shift register from which parallel-bit data passes to an " on the fly " tapeprinter. A notched wheel rotates with the typewheel, each notch corresponding to a different symbol on the typewheel. An extra large notch defines a datum position. A counter counts the number of notches from the datum as the typewheel rotates, the counter output being compared with the received code signal so that the comparator gives an output when the print hammer is to be struck. After a delay the comparator output advances the tape for printing the next symbol. In transmission mode data from a keyboard passes to the shift register which outputs serial bit data to the transmission channel via a modem. |
