The present invention relates to a stave coating material and a method for forming a coating layer of a blast furnace stave using the same. The method for forming a coating layer of a blast furnace stave includes: a step of manufacturing a stave coating material (11) molten at the temperature of the belly part (9) of a blast furnace (1); and a step of inserting the stave coating material (11) into the blast furnace (1). The stave coating material (11) is inserted along the inner wall of the blast furnace (1) before cokes (13) and iron ore (15) are inserted into the blast furnace (1). Then the material is lowered and molted in a belly part to form a coating layer (17) on a stave (7) in the lower part of the blast furnace. Therefore, the stave coating material and the method for forming a coating layer of a blast furnace stave using the same allow a slag coating layer to be formed on a stave in the lower part of a blast furnace by manufacturing a stave coating material molten at the temperature of the belly part of a blast furnace and inserting the stave coating material along the inner wall of the blast furnace at the time of furnace work, thereby increasing the service life of a stave on the lower part of a blast furnace.
