1. An arylene-containing compound of formula (I):
Rf-L-CH2—Ar—CH2—Y-Q (I) wherein:
Ar is a phenylene or diphenylene;Rf is a perfluoroalkyl having 3 to 6 carbon atoms or a group of formula CxF2x+1(OCyF2y)aOCpF2p—, wherein x is 1 to 4, y is 1 to 4, p is 1 to 4, and a is 0 to 20;L is selected from —O—, —SO2—, —CH2—O—, —C2H4—O—, —C2H4—S—, and —SO2—N(R1)—;R1 is a C1-C4 alkyl;Y is —O—, —S—, —NH—, —C(O)O—, —CH2—C(O)O—, —CH2—C(O)NH—, or together Y-Q is —P(O)(OR3)2, or —N3;wherein:when Y is selected from —O—, —S—, or —NH—, then Q is selected from:
—H,—CnH2n—OH,—C(O)—CnH2n—OH,—C(O)—O—CnH2n—OH,—C(O)—C(R2)═CH2,—CnH2n—O—C(O)—C(R2)═CH2,—C(O)—CnH2n—O—C(O)—C(R2)═CH2,—C(O)—NH—CnH2n—O—C(O)—C(R2)═CH2,—CmH2m—O—C(O)—NH—CnH2n—O—C(O)—C(R2)═CH2,—C(O)—CmH2m—O—C(O)—NH—CnH2n—O—C(O)—C(R2)═CH2, and—(CH2)3Si(OR4)3;or when Y is —C(O)O—, —CH2—C(O)O—, or —CH2—C(O)NH—, then Q is selected from:
