The purpose of the present invention is to provide an electronic device, which operates a cursor handler for improving the convenience of cursor control in a character input mode, and an operating method thereof. The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for operating an input function using a cursor in an electronic device. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method for operating an input function includes: executing a character input mode; providing a cursor handler to support an input function in the character input mode; and changing the cursor handler in response to a user input. Various embodiments are also possible based on the described embodiment.
