Disclosed is a method of operating a network device which is included in an internet protocol (IP) based media receiver including a media decoder to decode media content. A network interface of the network device receives an Ethernet packet from a content server transmitting media to the media receiver. A controller of the network device extracts a network packet from the Ethernet packet and extracts a media stream packet from the network packet. A user interface of the network device transmits the media stream packet to the media decoder.
