Gas to be scrubbed enters a casing 13 below a cowl 32 dipping at the lower end in a body of liquid in the base of the casing and having at its upper end an opening below which is arranged a rotary spray generator of the cage type, and passes upwardly through the spray, liquid is separated from the rising scrubbed gas by baffles 23, and drains to the base of the casing over the external surface of the cowl 32. As shown a chamber 33 depending from the opening in the cowl surrounds the spray generator and the cowl consists of two angled plates extending between opposed walls of the casing. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the opening of the cowl has a short downwardly extending flange and a collar co-axial with but spaced above the opening. The apparatus may be used for scrubbing paint-laden air. |
