According to various embodiments of the present invention, a method for operating a quasi-user interface for applications in an electronic device is provided. The method includes activating a quasi state for at least one application in response to a user action; maintaining the quasi state of the at least one application for a duration determined based on a presence of a finger detected in the proximity of the electronic device; and deactivating the quasi state of the at least one application when the finger is lifted away from the proximity of the electronic device. Other embodiments are also possible.
