The present invention relates to an electrolyte and to a lithium secondary battery including the same. The electrolyte includes a compound of chemical formula 1 as an electrolyte additive, thereby improving battery properties including such as discharge capacity properties and lifespan properties of a lithium secondary battery, and especially prevents decrease in capacity of a lithium secondary battery which has large changes in volume upon insertion and separation of lithium ions during charging and discharging by including silicon-based anode active material.
