1. A data processing system, the system comprising:
a channel bit density estimation circuit, the channel bit density estimation circuit comprising:
an equalizer circuit operable to equalize a set of digital samples based upon coefficients to yield and equalized output;a target filter circuit operable to apply a target filter algorithm to a known pattern to yield a target output, wherein the target filter algorithm is governed at least in part by a set of target values; anda channel bit density calculation circuit operable to calculate an estimated channel bit density of a channel from which the digital samples are derived based at least in part on a combination of the equalized output and the target output.
