) In one embodiment of this invention an operator may wish to shut down a generator in a remote power station hundreds of kilometres away. The shutdown command could be sent using existing control systems and protocols. The generator would receive this instruction via existing network infrastructure but be unable to complete the request without verification. The operator would send a verification data from his computer located in the control centre via lifi to the light fitting above his desk. The light fitting would forward this verification data to the light fitting in the generator room at the remote power station. The light fitting in the control room would forward the verification data to the generator and verify the original instruction received. Here the first and last step of the verification process are by lifi line of sight short range unique transmission. This process mirrors the visual confirmation protocols current accepted as fail safe in Aircraft, Military and Medical operations. The generator may also initiate this process as a result of a fault and send a warning to the operator in the control centre but again the process would require the verified data communication to complete the instruction.
