PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purification catalyst which can reduce the amount used of palladium which is a noble metal and is improved in heat resistance, and to provide a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing an exhaust gas purification catalyst, the method comprising: a step of diluting a palladium salt solution; a step of immediately adding urea into the diluted palladium salt solution to prepare an impregnation solution in which palladium hydroxide is dispersed; a step of immersing a carrier in the impregnation solution to adhere the palladium hydroxide to the carrier; and a step of drying and calcining the carrier to which the palladium hydroxide is adhered.
