This method for producing a glass plate includes: (I) a step for contacting a mixed gas containing an acid (A) containing the element fluorine (F) and an acid (B) containing the element chlorine (C1) and having a mole ratio (molar concentration of water/molar concentration of acid (A)) of water to acid (A) of less than 5 to at least one surface of a glass material that is formed in a plate shape, has a temperature in the range of at least the glass transition point and no greater than 300°C above the glass transition point, and contains at least sodium as a component, thus altering the surface shape of the glass material to a degree that alters the light scattering properties; and (II) a step for obtaining a glass plate by cooling the glass material obtained in step (I).
