PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide oral cavity care compositions having significant benefits in combating cavity formation and tooth sensitivity.SOLUTION: The invention provides an arginine functional salt-containing composition comprising a salt of arginine and one or more of the following cations: a. an acidic polymer, e.g., a polycarboxylate polymer; b. the conjugate acid of an anionic surfactant, e.g., lauroyl sulfuric acid; c. a polyphosphoric or polyphosphonic acid, e.g., hexametaphosphoric acid; or d. an acidic antimicrobial agent, e.g., gallic acid.
