PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device which allows payment by a card, and has a compact sized tablet type shape.SOLUTION: A portable electronic device 1 comprises: a tubular housing 2; a touch panel display 3 disposed on a front surface 21 of the housing 2; a contact type IC reading part 5 being integrated with the housing 2, for performing reading processing of a contact type IC card C2 related to payment; and a magnetic reading part 4 for performing reading processing of a magnetic card C1. The contact type IC reading part 5 includes: a contact type IC sensor 51; and an IC insertion groove 52 for guiding an IC chip of the contact type IC card C2 to a position of the contact type IC sensor 51. The magnetic reading part 4 includes: a magnetic sensor 41; and a magnetic insertion groove 42 for guiding a magnetic recording part of the magnetic card C1 to a position of the magnetic sensor 41. The contact type IC reading part 5 is disposed on a side surface side positioned in a short direction or long direction of the housing 2, and the magnetic reading part 4 is disposed on a side surface side positioned in the short direction or long direction of the housing 2.
