METHOD AND DEVICE FOR REGENERATING THE DRYING AGENT OF AN ADSORPTION AIR DRYER

The invention relates to a method and to a device for regenerating the drying agent of an adsorption air dryer connected downstream of a compressor, which drying agent is accommodated in at least one drying container, through which drying container a stream of compressed air generated by the compressor flows in such a manner that in a drying phase, the drying agent dries a moist stream of compressed air, and in a subsequent regeneration phase, a dry stream of compressed air regenerates the moist drying agent by way of drying. An electronic control unit is provided for valve technical switching between the drying phase and the regeneration phase, wherein for dynamically determining the switching time point from the drying phase to the regeneration phase, the electronic control unit detects the volume flow (VL) of the moist compressed air flowing from the compressor into the drying container based on the rotational speed (nK) of the compressor and the characteristic field (8)of the compressor indicating the delivery capacity of the compressor. The control unit determines the water entry (mL) in the drying agent from the air volume flow (VL) into the drying container and the temperature (TL associated therewith under the assumption that saturated air is present in order to switch from the drying phase to the regeneration phase upon reaching a defined water entry (mL) into the drying agent.
