<p>A failure node manager 110 keeps a record of which communications session servers (CSS) are in active and failed states and of which CSS is responsible for providing services to each user 120. Upon receipt of a user communication request via routing node 104 the active/failed state of its responsible CSS is checked. If active communication proceeds through the responsible CSS (3a-e). If failed (3f) responsibility is assigned to another CSS (e.g. CSS2) and communication proceeds through it (3h-s). A persistent user/CSS association may be stored and responsibility may automatically revert (3w-aa) when the CSS recovers from a failed state (3u).</p> |
