<p>Metal production process is particularly applicable to gas-fired cupola furnaces and protects the furnace lining against scaling without involving a reduction in the temp. of the furnace. Gaseous hydrocarbons are introduced into the furnace and are heated until they decompose, being partly burnt off in an oxidising agent. This produces a reducing atmosphere which is then blown through the charge and the melt. The gaseous hydrocarbons are led directly onto the surface of the refractory lining of the superheating chamber.</p> |
