<p>A multiple damper assembly comprising multiple damper masses for damping the motion of a body (200) approaching an impact surface(204), the damper masses comprising at least one principal damper mass (202)and at least one subsidiary damper mass (201,203) configured to act in series such that, in use, as a moving body approaches the impact surface it collides with the multiple damper masses causing them to bounce back and forth between the impact surface and the body undergoing a series of collisions with the moving body that decelerate it. The set of dampers may be selected to provide a tailored deceleration profile. The damper assembly may comprise a one-shot or re-usable device and may be used in robotic, machining, valve-controlling or other apparatus with repetitive, controlled movements, such as reciprocating actuators.</p> |
