[Also in Division C7] A magnetic thin film comprises a non- magnetic substrate having alternate layers of Cr and Co deposited thereon, the thickness of each Co layer being less than 200 Š and double that of the Cr layers. The layers may be deposited by evaporation under vacuum (10- or 10<SP>-8</SP> Torr) at a rate, for Cr, of 10-100 Š/sec., and for Co, of 0À5-1 Š/sec., the temperature of the substrate during Co deposition being 250- 340‹ C. The substrate may be glass, Al, or Ta. The product is isotropic, has a coercive field up to 1000 Oe, a saturation inductance up to 18,000 Gauss, and a square hysteresis loop (Br/Bs 0À9-1). |
