[Also in Division B8] A syringe package includes a collapsible portion in either the tapered tubular body or an enlarged head portion, whereby after stripping off a cover sheet from the head, the latter may be retracted towards the opposite end of the package to enable the syringe handle to be readily grasped. The sealing sheet may be permeable to 'permit gas sterilization or if impermeable, radiation may be used. In one embodiment, a bellows section 22 is arranged midway of the body but in others, it may be adjacent the shoulder 25 or at the small end. It may be of tapered or bulbous form. The needle end may be prevented by a shoulder ,such as 26 and rigidifying ribs 30 from contacting the package end. Alternatively a shield such as 34b covers the needle. The flange adjacent the head may be formed as a bellows 22b either, as shown or tapering towards the body. The bellows may be formed by. the sides of the head. |
