[Also in Division B2] A lacquer comprises a homogeneous or heterogeneous dispersion of a linear polyester of an alkylene glycol and a benzene dicarboxylic acid in a solution of a linear copolyester of an alkylene glycol and terephthalic and isophthalic acids. Suitable copolyesters are ethylene glycol/terephthalic acid/isophthalic acid or propylene glycol/terephthalic acid/isophthalic acid polyesters. Suitable polyesters are those from ethylene glycol or propylene glycol and terephthalic, isophthalic or orthophthalic acid. The primary solvent may be, e.g., 2-pyrrolidone or substituted 2 - pyrrolidone, cyclohexanone, chloroform, tetrahydrofuran or ethylene dichloride, to which may be added as a secondary solvent, e.g. toluene, methylethyl ketone or ethyl acetate. The linear polyester preferably does not form more than 25 wt. per cent of the total of polyester and copolyester, and this total amounts preferably to 5-30 wt. per cent of the lacquer. The usual pigments, dyestuffs and stabilizers (none specified) may be added. In examples, polyethylene terephthalate dissolved in N-methylpyrrolidone, with or without cyclohexanone, is added to polyethylene (60: 40 terephthalate/isophthalate) dissolved in N-methylpyrrolidone, with or without tetrahydrofuran and methyl ethyl ketone or in cyclohexanone and tetrahydrofuran, or the two polymers together are dissolved in N-methylpyrrolidone and cyclohexanone, to give dull-drying lacquers. |
