A method and system for determining whether to perform an inter-frequency handover (IFHO), comprising:
- getting information on the Application (102) for associating an application group (103) with data to be transmitted over the active data session,
- calculating (104) either a Remaining Time to Transmit (RemTT) or data size to transmit, depending on the associated application, for all the data remaining to be transmitted over the active data session,
- determining whether to perform an inter-frequency handover for the active data session or not, selecting the UEs which are targets for the IFHO (107, 110), based on the calculated remaining time or data size to transmit (106, 109) and based on whether the inter-frequency handover is scheduled to be initiated at call setup (105) or during the call (108).
