The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing an Opalopanax elatus extract or a fraction thereof for preventing or treating cancer. More specifically, the Opalopanax elatus extract or the fraction thereof has cytotoxic effect, lethal effect, and apoptotic effect against various cancer cell lines and also has antibacterial effect against acne bacteria, thereby being able to be effectively used as an active ingredient for the pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating cancer.
