<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detection system capable of detecting the position of a portable machine simply and clearly even if the effective reception areas of a portable machine relative to plural base stations are overlapped. <P>SOLUTION: A position detection system includes base stations A1 and A2, and a portable machine. Effective reception areas Zone A1 and Zone A2 of the portable machine are overlapped in a border area Zone C. A base station (dummy transmission antenna) D is disposed in the border area Zone C. Signals with different codes are simultaneously transmitted from the base stations A1, A2 and D. When a signal from the base station D is received, and when the signals from the base stations A1 and A2 cannot be received separately from the signal from the dummy transmission antenna due to a difference in electromagnetic field strengths between the signals, the portable machine responds nothing.
